Mr George Tan is an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore and holds an LLB (Hons). He is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (SIArb). He is an Executive Committee Member of the Senate of the Singapore Academy of Law and the immediate past Vice-President of the Law Society of Singapore. Mr Tan is a member of the Standing Committee, Commission on Post-Construction Liability of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB). He is also the Legal Advisor to the Singapore Contractors' Association Limited. He is an accredited panel member of arbitrators with the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC).
Mr Tan has made four important contributions to the field of knowledge of Construction Law in Singapore as a co-author of the legal publications in Singapore including the “Halsbury’s Laws of Singapore, Volume 2, Building and Construction Section” and “Construction Law in Singapore and Malaysia”. These are useful reference books for both practitioners (legal and construction) and students. He also contributes to the “Annual Review of Building and Construction Law” published by the Singapore Academy of Law.
Mr Tan has taught in the Law modules of the undergraduate programmes of the Department of Building, NUS, as well as in the Singapore Polytechnic. He has also delivered lectures on the Joint KCL-NUS MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration programme over the past two years
