Modules A and A(L) are tested by 100% examination; all other taught modules are tested by 80% examination and 20% assessed coursework. The Study Visit to London is not formally tested, but students write a report on their experience.

To be awarded the MSc, a student must pass (at the first or second attempt) all modules and must have a Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of 2.5 or better.
Students are required to pass both first-year taught modules before continuing to the second year. Any student who does not pass any module will have one further chance at an examination in each such module, carrying forward any passing marks for assessed coursework. Any student who does not pass a module at C+ or better at the first attempt may also resit the examination or submit a second dissertation, if the student’s overall CAP at the end of the year or the end of the programme is less than 2.5.
The programme has Pass, Merit and Distinction classifications. Merit relates to a CAP of 3.0 or better and Distinction to a CAP of 4.5 or better; a student must have passed each taught module and the dissertation at the first attempt with 2.5 or better to be eligible for Merit or Distinction.
A student must normally complete the degree within 4 years from the year of first registration. No student will normally be given additional time to take an examination or to submit the dissertation on professional or business grounds more than once.
