The admission requirements are as follows:
- a good Honours degree, preferably in law or a construction related discipline; or
- other professional or academic qualifications acceptable to both partners, in line with their normal practice for taught graduate degrees; and
- at least two years’ relevant work experience.
For applicants from universities whose academic standards are not well known, additional requirements may be stipulated. These may include the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and/or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
For candidates whose medium of undergraduate instruction was not English, a good score in the Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is essential. The minimum acceptable scores are 630 for TOEFL (paper-based), 267 for TOEFL (computer-based) and 7.5 for the IELTS.
All these additional tests, where required, must not have been taken more than three years before the proposed date of admission.
Applicants who do not fulfil all the relevant requirements above but are keen to join the programme should not be discouraged from applying in the normal way. They must understand, however, that the scope for waiving these requirements is limited, however eager the applicant and however good his/her performance at the interview.
Relevant factors
In considering your application for entry to the MSc programme, the two institutions will be trying to assess your ability to complete the programme successfully at the first attempt and within two academic years. To do this, they will look at:
- the quality and significance of your formal qualifications (the older they are, the less impact they may have);
- the duration and range of your work experience and its relevance to the topics covered by the programme; and
- (so far as possible) the strength of your commitment and motivation.
Your references play an important role in this evaluation. All shortlisted applicants will be called for interview, usually during June before the intended start of the programme. Those outside Singapore may be interviewed by telephone. If you wish to discuss your application before submitting it, contact the DRGS to arrange a phone conversation or a meeting with one of the members of staff.
