NUS - King's College London joint MSc programme honoured with exemption from Membership requirements of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators
The new MSc programme in Construction Law & Arbitration in Singapore, planned to be launched in July 2003 by the NUS Department of Building in partnership with the Centre of Construction Law & Management, King's College London, has been honoured with exemptions from some membership requirements of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, founded in 1915, provides a member organisation for practising arbitrators and has become a global body with headquarters in London and branches world-wide. With more than 10,000 members in 86 countries, the Institute not only promotes and facilitates the determination of disputes by arbitration, but also by alternative means of dispute resolution (ADR) including mediation and, where appropriate, adjudication, for a wide variety of business and commercial sectors.
As with the King's College MSc, on which the new joint programme is based, students who have successfully completed the MSc in Singapore will gain exemption from the Associate and Member examinations. In addition, those who have sat and passed a separate additional Award-Writing examination (to be conducted in Singapore after the final examinations for the MSc) will also gain exemption from the Part III examination of the Chartered Institute towards Fellowship qualification.
Students who gain exemption from Part III of the Chartered Institute's examinations via this route must also successfully follow the Assessment for Fellowship programme and pass a final interview, in order to gain the Fellowship qualification. More details are available at the Chartered Institute's website at www.arbitrators.org.
Said Professor George Ofori, Head of Department of Building, "The grant of exemption by a prestigious professional body for a new programme is a rare achievement. We are very proud that the NUS-King's College London joint MSc programme has received this honour."
