(Updated October 2007)

Introduction

One of benefits of the modular and two-semester system is that students will be able to consider undertaking a semester of study in an overseas university. Going abroad for one semester to learn and live in a new environment is a new challenge which the University and the School will like to encourage as many students as possible to experience.

We believe this experience will help to equip our students better to participate in the global economy that awaits them. Given the Singapore government's encouragement to globalize, evidence of an international perspective will be an advantage in their future career.

Students on exchange programmes will take the prescribed courses and some elective courses and their respective examinations in the overseas universities. These will be deemed to replace part of the requirements of the BSc course here and the grades achieved will be converted to the local system.

General Information

Application Period

Students can apply for the Student Exchange Programme (SEP) once a year (November – January) for both University-Wide [UW] and Department Level [DL] SEP.

They are free to choose either Semester I or II for their SEP

    • 3rd Year, Semester 1
    • 3rd Year, Semester 2
  3. Students on the Fast Track Scheme can apply for SEP and they can go during the 3rd Year, Semester 1.
  4. More information is available at http://www.nus.edu.sg/iro/nus/prog/sep/index.html

Application Process

There are three stages in the application process.

Call for application will be sent out. Students will reply to the coordinator and rank their choices. The Programme Director will do the selection and students will be informed.

Stage 2: Online Application – UW

Once the students are selected for SEP, they must do the online application at http://www.nus.edu.sg/iro/nus/students/programmes/SEP/index.html

  1. NUS SEP Application Form
  2. SEP Study Plan

    • They can visit the Partner University’s website, refer to the University prospectus in the NUS Central Library, the respective country's embassy and the world-wide-web for information.

Financial Aspects

Under the exchange programme, students need not pay tuition fees to the host university but they will still pay fees to NUS.

They will need to pay for their living and other expenses in the overseas host universities. Students are advised to budget a minimum sum of S$9,000 to cover their expenses.  The amount may vary depending on the standard of living of the country of the partner university

Student Exchange Loan Fund

Students who are in need of financial assistance may apply for the Overseas Student Exchange Loan Fund.
